Let's Celebrate World Book Day Together

The aim of World Book Day is to encourage every child and young person to believe they are readers. Designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, World Book Day is now marked in over 100 countries around the globe.

World Book Day changes lives through a love of books and shared reading. Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success – more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational background or their income.

The mission is to promote reading for pleasure. The children in your life will receive a Voucher worth £1 - this can be exchanged at many indie books shops for WBD mini titles - therefore offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own.

We want to see more children with a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings them. This year at Madhatters we are trying something a little different. Instead of purchasing the WBD mini books we have made a donation to two local Primary Schools and we will be encouraging those schools to bring children to the book shop not only to use that donation to enhance their school library but to sample to joy of being in a bookshop, learn the art of browsing and discover the sheer joy of escaping into the land of stories.
