Books Educate not Indoctrinate

ree

After the multi-vehicular procession that was JD Vance and his security made their way up Burford High Street yesterday I am lead to considering a new shelf in the Madhatter Bookshop entitled BANNED BOOKS! These are the titles that are considered unfit by organised and well funded groups in the USA who base their decisions on specified idealogies. These groups, like 'Moms For Liberty' actively and successfully seek to remove books they find distasteful and objectionable from school and library shelves.

Over 16000 titles are currently banned in many states, a number not seen since the Red Scare McCarthy era of the 1950s. Most of these are predominantly targets books about race and racism or individuals of color and also books on LGBTQ+ topics as well those for older readers that have sexual references or discuss sexual violence.

There is currently no legal penalty for owning a book on the so called banned list but we can only cross and fingers and hope that this does not become the case as we watch with astonishment the Trumpian administration tighten their grip on the neck of the land of the free.

Banned titles include.......

To Kill A Mocking Bird by Harper Lee

The Handmaids Tale by Margaret Atwood

The Bluest Eye By Toni Morrison

The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas

Twilight by Stephanie Myer

The Odyssey by Homer

Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Piccoult

Blubber by Judy Blume

Lord of The Flies by William Golding

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

The Great Gatsby by F Scott-Fitzgerald

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

Books teach us how to think and understand, not blindly believe. The real purpose of education is to raise awareness so that we can make better decisions. Similarly, professional interview coaching services also teach a person the skill of expressing his abilities, so that he can become self-confident and achieve success.
